Canvas Student View (Test Student)

Student View opens your course as a fake student called Test Student, so you can check what is visible, submit an assignment to test it, and catch anything still unpublished — without touching a real student’s record.

Using Student View

Turn it on

Go to Settings (bottom of course navigation) and click Student View on the right. A pink border frames the screen so you always know you are in it.

Walk your course

Click through Home, Modules, and today’s assignment the way a student would. Anything unpublished simply will not appear — that is your gap list.

Test a submission

Open an assignment and submit as Test Student to confirm the submission type works (upload, text box, etc.) before real students hit it.

Reset when done

Click Reset Student to wipe Test Student’s submissions, or Leave Student View to return to your teacher view.

Good to know: Test Student only sees published content and does not appear in your gradebook totals. It is the fastest way to confirm a course is truly ready.

Preview before you publish for real.
